Ralph Miller - CEO

Ralph Miller sits on the Board of Directors as Chief Executive Officer. Ralph started Calsense in 1986, engineering the company’s first products; soil moisture sensing with a computer, micro-processor based controller. A key component of the Calsense success is factory-direct support to the customer and Ralph launched the field service department early on to help customers use water conservation technology successfully.

Prior to Calsense, Ralph was Vice President and General Manager of TRW’s LSI products division in La Jolla, CA. Ralph was employed at TRW as a semiconductor engineer, after receiving a BA degree in Physics from UCLA in 1967. Over the following nineteen years, he worked his way through the ranks as Section Head, then Department Manager. In 1977 he was chosen to lead a start up company, which became TRW’s LSI products division and grew the business over an eight year period, to over four hundred employees and annual sales in excess of fifty million dollars.


David Byma - President

David L. Byma is the current President of Calsense. He started his employment with Calsense in 1997 moving from Phoenix, Arizona to take over the Vice President of Marketing role.

David began his irrigation career in Washington State working for a distributor that focused on agriculture projects. He designed, sold and installed irrigation systems ranging from as small as a back yard to as large as 320 acres. He moved with his family to Phoenix in 1983. David was introduced to the turf market upon moving to Phoenix and soon gained valuable experience in central irrigation control systems. During his stay in Phoenix, David worked for several different irrigation distributors finishing up with Ewing Irrigation, Golf and Industrial Plastics.

David has a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems. He also holds a Certificate of Operations Management.


Robert Destremps – Vice President

Bob Destremps has been the Vice President of Calsense since 1997. Among his other duties, he also heads the engineering department. He has been employed at Calsense since 1990 when he transitioned from a consultant to a permanent employee.

Bob worked with Ralph Miller the CEO early on developing Calsense's irrigation controllers. The 2100 and ET1 controllers are the results of these efforts. Since then Bob has also guided the development of the ET2000 and ET2000e irrigation controllers. Recently, Bob successfully developed the FlowsenseTM software and the revolutionary RRe and RRe- TRAN package.

Bob holds an electrical engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated in 1981. Following college, he went to work for Boeing Aerospace. Following Boeing, he offered his services for several years as an engineering consultant in the San Diego area.


Rick Capitanio – Vice President, Sales

Rick Capitanio has been Vice President – Sales for Calsense since 2002. He was employed by Calsense in 1988 as one of the first field service representatives and spent many years working with customers in the field, servicing the product and teaching end users how to be successful with Calsense technology. In 1994 Rick moved over to sales and covered the California, Nevada and Arizona markets. Currently he manages the Calsense sales team covering various areas throughout the United States.

Prior to Calsense, Rick spent several years as a Jr. High School teacher in the Boston Massachusetts area and is originally from Connecticut. After receiving a B.S degree in Biology from Boston College, spent two and a half years in Ecuador, South America educating farmers and indigenous people how to raise fresh-water fish for enhanced protein diets. Rick in addition holds a Masters Degree in Teaching from Boston University.


Richard Wilkinson – Corporate Secretary/Treasurer, Field Service Manager

Richard Wilkinson has been Field Service Manager for Calsense since 1996 and oversees operations in various states throughout the United States. He has an extensive background in the irrigation industry on the construction end of landscape and irrigation installation, working 26 years for a company called Landscape Inc. out of San Marcos, California.

He started as an Apprentice Pipe Fitter, worked his way up to Crew Foreman, then Construction Supervisor and finally as Construction General Superintendent before leaving to work for Calsense in 1994. Richard additionally has worked in Corporate Administration since 1997. Duties consist of Accounts Receivables/Payables, Payroll, Human Resources, Company Benefits, and as Fleet Coordinator.


Rodger Van Kirk – Assistant Vice President, Engineering
